Over decades, it has built a network of 32 district affiliates, giving chess a structured reach from urban centers to remote corners of the state. Assam has emerged as the chess powerhouse of Northeast India, driven by the All Assam Chess Association

All Assam Chess Association(AACA) is an affiliate of the All India Chess Federation (AICF), which is recognized by Government of India as a National Sports Federation.

📚 Assam is among the few Indian states where chess has been steadily integrated into the school education ecosystem. This model doesn’t just build competitive players—it develops cognitive skills, patience, and decision-making abilities in thousands of students every year.

🏆 Assam’s chess calendar is packed with both prestige events and grassroots tournaments like district selections & state selection tournaments.

Challenges and the Road Ahead

While Assam’s chess scene is vibrant, it still faces hurdles:

• Infrastructure gaps in rural areas limit access to regular FIDE-rated tournaments.
• Funding and sponsorship remain inconsistent outside big events like ACPL.
• Coach availability at grassroots levels could be scaled up for long-term growth.

With growing school programs, innovative leagues, and a strong player base, Assam is rapidly becoming the chess capital of Northeast India—a place where tradition meets modern competitive spirit.
