Maharashtra is a state in India that has a vibrant chess culture and community. Chess is a popular game in Maharashtra with many clubs, tournaments and competitions taking place throughout the state.Â
The Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA) is the governing body for chess in the state.The MCA organizes numerous tournaments and competitions for players of all ages and skill levels from local events to state and national championships.
It is affiliated with the All India Chess Federation (AICF). And is responsible for organizing chess tournaments, events and selecting players for state and national-level competitions.
The MCA also promotes and supports chess education and development throughout the state.Many talented chess players have come from Maharashtra. Including Grandmasters Pravin Thipsay, Abhijit Kunte, Vidit Gujrathi, Shardul Gagare, Swapnil Dhopade, Abhimanyu Puranik, Harshit Raja, Raunak Sadhwani and IM Anup Deshmukh.Â
Maharashtra has also produced many strong female players such as Divya Deshmukh, Soumya Swaminathan and Eesha Karavade.
Overall chess is an important part of the culture and community in Maharashtra, and the state has made significant contributions to the development and promotion of the game in India.Â
